Cycling has many benefits, yet in some countries there is a decrease in the number of people using bicycles as their main form of transportation. Why is it happening? Give suggestions how to encourage people to use bicycles again.

It has often been observed that in several countries, the utilisation of active travel has plummeted tremendously and people have started relying on other means of transport by shelving the advantages associated with cycling. This essay will find out the reasons behind this new phenomenon and suggest some solutions to surmount this problem.

The idea of abandoning cycling as the main form of transportation can be attributed to numerous factors. The mushrooming population of some countries has engendered a rise in traffic volume entailing colossal amounts of pollution due to which commuters are bereft of the appropriate space, and they do not want to forego their safety by pedaling on congested roads enveloped in contaminated air, thereby deploying active travel in their regular regime has become a thing of the past.

Furthermore, urbanisation has brought along a spike in traffic snarls, and the utilisation of bikes make it difficult for people to reach their destinations on time, by virtue of which they fail to accomplish their personal and professional endeavours. Similarly, with the changing times, the lifestyles are also changing owing to which many have started enjoying more outings with their nears and dears, and bicycles fall short of rendering an opportunity to the former to spend the lighter moments with the latter by travelling together.

However, the panacea for this predicament can be found by the efforts of the policy makers since they are equipped with the resources, they should take initiatives, like building separate lanes for cyclists to afford them space and safety on roads, which would help create inclination among enthusiasts to ride this humble mode again. Moreover, the state should create awareness campaigns to enlighten the masses about the health benefits of riding a bicycle by organising cycling drives.

Overall, it is true that this 19th century invention is losing its shine and popularity, it can be made a common sight on the roads once again provided governments take the imperative measures by framing policies to render the surroundings to the inhabitants exempted from ecological disaster.
