Nowadays, as a part of the education process, students work at a company for a short period of time without pay. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Almost all contemporary universities or college programmes stipulate industrial training. Although this system promises to render much required practical experience, it can also pose economic strain on learners. Nevertheless, I strongly feel that the former easily exceeds the latter, and shall support my stand in the following paragraphs.
Such a provision allows pupils to obtain an opportunity to learn to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom in real-time environments. This can help them enlighten themselves about the procedure and impact of deploying their theoretical knowhow in industry context, and establish a synchronisation between both, thereby enhancing their occupational competence. To corroborate, ones studying in different fields of medicine are sent to hospitals as interns to enable them to gain perfection by using their scholastic abilities to treat the ailing and augment their professional acumen.
Moreover, this arrangement can also train university and college goers in efficiently communicating and coordinating with their coworkers. Most academic and professional courses focus on delivering hard skills only, and such field placements help foster critical soft skills, smoothing their absorption into the work force later. For instance, a majority of successful fresh graduates recruited by large organizations credit their success to such assignments.
However, this programme has a potential to expose students, especially those hailing from poor economic backgrounds, to financial hardships; besides bearing the fee of education, they must also spend money to attend apprenticeship terms. Similarly, they might not receive appropriate mentorship because companies engaging them may not consider them serious performers due to lack of financial inducements.
To conclude, this kind of setup is always rewarding as it prepares undergraduates for a successful professional innings by permitting them to polish their job-related and interpersonal acumen, while the complications can be resolved through university and communal support.
