More and more young people from wealthy countries are spending time in communities in poorer countries doing unpaid work such as teaching or building houses. Why is this? Who benefits more from this, the communities or these young people?

Today, youth from prosperous parts of the world are motivated to volunteer in poverty-stricken regions due to various reasons. Such an evolution is proving to be a win-win situation for all the parties involved. 

The primary cause that is stimulating the young generation of elite countries to rise to the occasion and served the impoverished is the advent of globalization, by virtue of which youngsters feel that  it is their moral responsibility to lend a hand to help mitigate miseries of the deprived so that the latter can also lead a comfortable life. Moreover, their adventurous spirit and an intent to do something new is acting as a driving force, making them transcend geographical, political and socio-economic barriers. 

Undertaking such endeavors is turning out to be extensively favourable for youngsters: they are able to learn about the problems faced by those surviving in poor economic conditions and the ways to alleviate those afflictions; and forge relationships  with people from other parts of the world, strengthening a feeling of homogeneity and empathy towards others. 

Similarly,  societies, both recipient and donors are able derive sumptuous advantages. Where the former can use the expertise, otherwise absent due to lack of education in such societies, to deploy in various strategic sectors and create venues for development, the latter affords an opportunity to enrich its skill pool with the talent that is capable of performing even in daunting conditions, absence of resources and presence of numerous impediments such as social, cultural and legal.

Overall,  this phenomenon is driven globalization and a sense of adventure, but the benefits it is fetching are innumerable; where youngsters gain in-depth knowledge about the problems faced by the third world, the global society is rendered with the workforce that can operate under any conditions.

In hindsight, this newly emerging phenomenon has, although taken everyone by surprise, it is nonetheless deemed as reassuring that renders guarantee for closer cooperation between different countries. Similarly, the young and societies on both sides receive humongous rewards.
