A majority feels that voting should be considered compulsory. Do you agree or disagree with this notion?
Compulsory voting has become a hot topic these days, and many feel that everyone needs to participate in the process, while others are skeptical about this notion.
To begin with, this arrangement can ensure participation by every citizen, overcoming the situation of minority voting. It has been seen by many that whenever these events happen, many times, the least favourable candidate automatically wins due to the low participation of the populace, by virtue of simple majority principle, due to which they create policies benefiting only the limited populace and work as per their convenience.
Similarly, the proposed method can provide the government a solution to check about the actual populace, giving upper hand to policy makers to manage their monetary resources efficiently. While running campaigns it require funds to carry out the task like advertising, printing posters, and so forth, by this approach they can be benefitted as they do not need to spend on these activities; they already got the information of habitants through previous process saving them huge capital which can be used in more prioritized work.
While others suggest, pressurising one to vote is a clear indication of violating personal choice of freedom. Many believe that voting is just a democratic process, one can still participate in this by submitting a blank reserving their personal choice if one does not want to cast a vote for another.
In hindsight, mandatory voting can lead the government to manage resources more efficiently; mandatory participation can lead to implementation of various policies which can be fruitful to citizens only as they can choose leaders by actively participating in the process.
