Many organisations and companies ask their staff to wear a uniform. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this? What kind of jobs should have a work uniform?
A school of thought suggests that in modern times many organizations prefer their employees to wear uniforms. This inclination has umpteen advantages and disadvantages which will be assessed in the upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, wearing uniforms promotes a homogeneous environment among the staff. When all staff members wear the same attire, it will eliminate the differences based on income, class, and so forth, resulting in fostering collaboration between workers, leading to a better workplace environment. Besides this, it can help large organizations to be recognised easily, helping them create a distinct image over their counterparts. It has been seen people around the world recognize staff members very easily, if they have a specified clothing, especially in the service sectors like hotels, airlines, and so on.
There are certain industries which require a particular dress code, like police, airlines, doctors, hotels and many more. It is essential for them to wear official clothing; to be recognised by the general populace easily. Similarly, those working in hazardous environments like coal mines, chemical factories, and so on, must wear the prescribed gear; it is designed to protect workers from hazards.
Having said that, there is some criticism for this arrangement as a few complain that following the pre-define organizational attire code can make the work environment look monotonous, and also kill creativity, but these notions are misplaced since it is a mental attitude that creates lively surroundings and promotes resourcefulness, and official dress code as nothing to do with it.
