The tendency  of consuming goods in vogue has experienced a significant surge in recent times. This essay will scrutinise the impact of this on society at large and emanate its stand that this phenomenon is a detrimental evolution.

At the outset, the fashion industry cultivates innovations that result in a multitude of professions, including fashion designers, creative directors, fashion journalists, and so on, thereby churning out employment and professional engagement for millions. Additionally, it provides avenues for self-expression and creativity by empowering  individuals to experiment with different styles and ultimately enhance their self-esteem. Likewise, this ever- evolving industry aids in augmenting advancements in terms of technology and bolstering quality of products.

However, this trend portrays a pessimistic outlook as it leads to excessive consumption and wastage of financial resources. Those who conform to fast fashion patterns,  especially the youngsters, face economic strain due to their inclination to procure the latest merchandise. Similarly, this sector is also blamed for mindless milking of resources and leaving heaps of undesirable items that are discarded after the trend has passed.

Additionally, this is also engendering superfluous beauty standards that often dampen the confidence of individuals, particularly of teenagers, and perpetuates body image issues. In contemporary times, social media encapsulates these changing patterns and influencers portray unrealistic trends that arouse jealousy among people. This may prove to be a daunting experience for those who wish to replicate the emerging styles, negatively impacting their mental well-being.

Therefore, in my opinion, the trendy merchandise industry exerts significant pressure on those wishing to follow trends. This is wreaking havoc in the lives of people who are gullibly entrapped and squander their hard earned money. Thus, this propensity has umpteen pitfalls and is likely to afford severe ramifications for individuals in the form of hardships and crisis.
