Children should play Indoor games on the computer more than outdoor games

Why play computer games

  • This will keep them safe from unsafe outdoors

  • Protect them from pollution and infections

  • Making youngsters tech savvy: this can prepare them for the future professional endeavors

  • This can also help improve their reflexes - quick thinking and decision making abilities

  • Teach them about solving complex  problem

Why not

  • Indoor activities expose youngsters to indolent (sedentary) lifestyles and make them vulnerable to disease

  • Hampers their mental and physical growth

  • They miss the chance to earn a healthy distraction

  • Impedes personality development - life skills and other important traits

  • They never learn about social interaction and behavior, and also about critical life skills

Many feel that young ones should devote more time to playing computer games at home rather than engaging in outdoor ones. However, there are critics of this proposal.

To start with, some strongly lobby behind this notion since virtual games can prove to be extremely useful when it comes to grabbing pivotal skills required by one to become tech savvy for the future life. Most young individuals are about to step into professional, social and familial realms where they will need to use the modern methods to negotiate a myriad of responsibilities, and these games can help familiarize them with the latest introductions of technology.

Notwithstanding the former view, even though virtual games do have certain benefits to offer,  persuading youngsters to engage with these can expose them to more drawbacks. They can turn into addicts simply gluing themselves to these activities and overlooking every other essential task required to fetch crucial learnings about various domains such as academics, meeting people in person and also interacting with surroundings.

To corroborate, this can be supported by citing the outcomes of  a survey conducted by the University of Waterloo to assess the detrimental impact of ignoring outdoor games in favor of computer-aided ones, on the young minds. The findings were startling as  most children had turned apathetic to their surroundings, and tended to avoid meeting others in the real world, engage in their studies and also ignore the need to get proper sleep. This, however, failed to benefit them academically and professionally.

In hindsight, despite computer games being promoted as highly beneficial for youngsters, I fail to concur with the idea of preferring these over outdoor engagements since the latter are laden with umpteen benefits. Striking a balance between both is highly desirable.
