Ielts Essay Freedom and Children

Rendering more freedom to the young ones in the current times, as compared to the past is in vogue today. This has become a center of debate, as many social theorists believe this paradigm shift is having a huge impact on families and society in either positive or negative manner. I believe it has has both sides and would discuss in following paragraphs.

Affording more independence to the growing ones these days is needed, when both the parents are generally working. This helps to foster confidence in children and they grow up as open minded and rational individuals who are an asset for the society. Moreover, as it is said "With more powers comes more responsibilities", such individuals get exposure to decision making and exhibit characteristics of ownership and responsibility at an early age. Conversely, if such kids have limited freedom, they might not be able to grow up as out of box thinkers.

However, too much freedom to the youngsters can lead to them feeling superior as compared to others in the society they might not respect the common social values and can even become arrogant. On the top of that, they can  even indulge into anti-social activities thinking that they are free and have authority to do so. This kind of attitude has been observed in kids from super rich families and some of their activities  have had dire consequences not only for them but for their families and the society, as well.

To recapitulate, in my view, even though modern societies do require children enjoying more independence, we need to keep a check, and ensure this is not abused by them. Also, youngsters need to be continuously counselled to ensure they understand this.
