Nowadays children prefer electronic games to other games and toys. Why is it happening? Is it a positive or negative development?

In the era of technology, all spheres of life have changed dramatically. In contemporary times, youngsters have a penchant towards computerized games instead of indoor, as well as outdoor games. This essay shall delve into the reasons behind this trend, and explore whether this is a favorable or unfavorable evolution.

With the ever-changing technology and fast-paced innovations, nowadays, children are well equipped with gadgets such as smartphones, laptops, play stations and so on. Due to the introduction of umpteen of electronic games and the emergence of advanced animations like 3D, 4D, 7D, and many more, young ones find them irresistible thereby, relinquishing other games and becoming addicted  to them. Furthermore, The round-the-clock internet connectivity is also fueling this yearning since this enables them to play these games as per their convenience, and renders a chance to download most of them free of charge.

The rising obsession for electronic playthings among youngsters is aiding in introducing technology to them and  making them tech savvy, which will surely prove to be highly beneficial in later life. Moreover, the indulgence in electronic games helps children in developing strategy building skills and stimulating creativity, as well as innovation, which contribute to their cognitive development.

However, there are certain failings to this inclination. Since most young ones are engaging with such devices for long hours, this results in affecting their health adversely, weakening eyesight, back pains and corpulence are some of the  outcomes of such indulgence. Additionally, they fail to strike a balance between their study and leisure time. Consequently, their academic performance  suffers,  they are unable to focus on their studies and are always lost in the virtual world.

To reiterate, despite some negative aspects of this practice, its merits prevail. It is the onus on parents to monitor their wards and control their addiction to electronic games by allotting appropriate time to each activity.
