Ielts Essay Trashing The Food

A startling phenomenon is being observed today that an increasing amount of food is ending up in the trash cans instead of satisfying hunger. This new development has many experts scampering for the root cause, as well as the practical way outs.

The most prominent of the causes behind this phenomenon is the indifferent attitude of buyers for whom shopping for things including eatables has become a desirable pastime. Whenever they visit markets and stores, they end up shopping mindlessly, and food being the cheapest and the most important merchandise always tops the shopping priorities. These items don the shelves and the racks of the household kitchens and refrigerators until they are spoiled or pass their expiry dates.

Moreover, consumer companies involved in selling edible goods are also partially responsible for this rising dumping of food. In order to establish their image as once selling high grade goods, especially fruits and vegetables, they tend to only select those individual pieces that have perfect shapes and are blemish less besides being in perfect color. Due to this the businesses discard even the slightly discolored, deformed and bearing a few marks without giving a second thought.

Nevertheless, this challenge can be surmounted by adopting certain prudent steps, like creating food banks and encouraging people and the organizations to donate the unwanted food for the good of the society, especially for the impoverished and the destitute. This way not only the have nots would get their nourishment but it would also prevent a critical resource from ending up in the landfill sites.

Hence, it is true that consumerism is fuelling  wasteful habits, people and businesses can be convinced to make a better use of the extra food they buy by sharing it with those who face the scarcity.
