Ielts Essay - Modern Medicine and Alternative medicine
Health has always been a cause of worry, it has forced experts in field of medicine to find ways to treat illness. This has although helped discover diverse systems of treatment: mainstream and alternative,  it has also raised a bizarre debate, as some consider alternative medicine as worthless and, in fact, hazardous. However, others support non-mainstream interventions.

Choosing interventions that are not a part of a proven modern medicine is considered to be extremely harmful and laden with several risks since such systems, as some experts propose, do not have any documentary proof of how the practitioners diagnose and detect ailments; how they devise their strategies of treatment and prescribing medicines. This, in an age of well-documented experiments of causes and effects of ailments and medicines, makes the whole system quite precarious, and bereft of any concrete evidence.

Moreover, many professionals openly deride use of other medicines: ingredients and methods utilized in alternative medicines and therapies are often questionable of grounds of safety - use of poison, heavy metal, untreated needles and pressure seldom help in recovery, or bringing around any kind of relief, but instead stretch the tenure of illness, often severely impeding recovery of patients.

However, there are others who are outrightly positive about the outcomes of  traditional medicine interventions: the alternative methods of medicine target the very root cause of a disease, and strive to eradicate  the disorder or ailment completely instead of giving a temporary relief; these concepts use natural ingredients as these therapies regard a human body as a part of nature rather than a machine, which eliminates any chances of unpleasant side-effects.

Henceforth, I personally feel despite portrayal of alternative medicine as being evil, non-mainstream medicine is effective and can instead prove to be complimentary to the modern medicine.

Ielts Essay - Over-education
Educating oneself appropriately to raise chances of grabbing good employment has been a primary objective of every individual today, but some people profess, in this pursuit, some tend to get more than what may be needed to fulfill professional obligations that can fuel discontentment though others consider this idea to be quite bizarre.

Pursuing and completing academic qualifications that exceed requirements of employment in a given domain does sometimes instill discontentment. Individuals, after years of studying, tend to become too ambitious and unrealistic; hence failing to derive fulfillment and end up feeling disenchanted, and in fact disgruntled. Such people will not settle for anything lesser than a  job that offers them a smart remuneration, as well as a post of consequence; and any work they do, that is not strategically critical to an establishment, appears to be an impediment in their progress.

Moreover, workers with knowledge that outstrips demands of work also find it hard to cope with their co-workers whom they consider to be 'Lesser Mortals' and  virtually a no-match. In such cases, it has been observed that overeducated individuals are always out of sync of aspirations and expectations of rest of workforce; and tend to stay aloof and feel alienated; and thus unhappy.

However, there are others who outrightly ridicule this pessimist view: education can never be in excess, and it rather, if an individual grabs more of it, helps broaden mindsets and equip people with abilities to innovate, and come out with radical solutions to every problem. Such workers derive pleasure by outperforming their colleagues in performance that makes them feel proud of their abilities.

In a nutshell, I feel, the notion of excessive education leading to discontentment at work has no firm grounding and baseless

Ielts Essay - Old Houses of New Designs
Urban planning is surely a difficult job, as it must take care of how the construction of dwelling units, in a locality, is undertaken. Right now, these professionals have a task on hand: whether to allow people to build their houses as per individual wish, or to follow pre-established by-laws.

Permitting  people to construct residences as per their own discretion is justifiable: modern architectural conventions focus on saving space and energy. With fast changing times, requirements of households have undergone dramatic transformations: more and more people, per family, need to be accommodated  within a given space which is almost impossible to achieve with obsolete design parameters. Allowing individual households to carry out construction as per their discrete needs will help save time, efforts and money otherwise expended on finding alternative solutions, like looking for additional residential units.

Moreover, design of dwelling units is an individual prerogative since people tend to spend, most of the times, a lot of their hard-earned money, sometimes even savings of their whole life, on building their dream houses: they deserve an opportunity to fulfill their dreams and expectations, and authorities have no right to enforce upon will on free citizens.

However, there are others asserting that no deviation should be allowed from a prescribed modular design. Allowing heterogeneous designs would fuel dissent in large numbers; thus allowing all sorts of weird designs and facades to come up and spoil the outlook of surroundings and make neighborhoods look ugly. Moreover, design bye-laws suggested by urban bodies conform to prerequisites necessary for ensuring a good quality of life for citizens of an area.

In a nutshell, I personally vouch for a modular designs as it will help promote a homogenous look that will help giving a neighborhood a pleasant look even though some freedom should be afforded, as far as, interiors is concerned.

Ielts Essay - Vertical or Horizontal Cities?
As urban town planners struggle to discover ways to resolve issues facing modern cities - in terms of accommodating population and sustenance of environment, the society stands divided in two partisan groups: ones supporting life in cities with horizontal development, and others vouching for urban areas that have grown vertically.

Most urbanites prefer residence and employment in metros that have a plenty of high-rise buildings. Such locations are quite compact and self-sufficient in almost all aspects: they offer much shorter commuting times between homes, offices and places of leisure, that are often located within a close vicinity of each other. This leaves people with ample time to allocate to each part of their lives, professional and personal. Moreover, such settings also offer a sense of security, as due to being compact, locals are familiar with areas and each other.

Similarly, vertical cities are known to be environmentally friendly. More and more populace - bitten by environment protection bug, is choosing such areas over others; locations having lesser multi-storey buildings predispose deforestation. Furthermore, most of high-rises are also designed with an aim of conserving and, in fact, generating own energy, by use of non-conventional methods and fuels, like solar power, etc.

However, conservative lobby still favors horizontal urban settings: they feel, horizontal arrangement offers a good quality of life: the pressure of population is far lesser which aids in better utility services; having green front and back yards offers superior comfort due to availability of abundant sunlight and fresh air; surroundings and skyline are a very pleasing sight, unlike the street canyons in the concrete jungles of high-rises.

In a nutshell, both the vertically and horizontally developed urban metropolis have their own benefits and shortcomings; hence judging which is a better place to live is impossible.
