Egalitarian Society - Ielts Essay

Humans have always lived at poles, when it comes to deciding about the parameters to guide the character of the social set-up. Where some profess that it is necessary to follow principles of egalitarianism, and treat every human in same manner, others vehemently defend the freedom of offering chances based on the qualities of individuals.

“God has made everyone equal”, so the humans have no right of creating divisions. It is believed that gauging merits of individuals on certain parameters, defined by humans, is quite outrageous since this kind of system prevents society from harnessing the usefulness of each individual. “Everybody has a genius directed to a specific direction, and telling a fish to climb a tree is quite unjustified, but if it given an opportunity to prove its prowess at swimming, it would surely excel”. Similar is the case when it comes to providing openings and chances to humans; robbing them of chances when they could have excelled in other areas would be unjust.

However, applying same yardstick to measure performers and non-performers is quite an impractical suggestion. After all, the future of a society cannot be compromised just for the sake of offering equal opportunities – regardless of the performance achieved. History has been a witness that wherever such principles have been followed, the society has witnessed erosion of creamy layer as the intelligent people have migrated to other countries – resulting in brain drain.  Such societies, as a result, have accrued an irrevocable and insurmountable loss of talent. Moreover, this system would fuel confusion and make people completely dependent on the government assistance, thereby killing creativity.

Overall, I strongly feel that harping proposals of providing equal opportunities to the achievers and under-performers is highly impractical and prove  counterproductive in long run.

Ielts Essay - New Family Set-ups

With the changing times, a paradigm shift is being observed in the family set-ups across a cross section of society. This has also resulted in switchovers, and sometimes, complete reversal of roles of family members. These modern settings are laden with both benefits and drawbacks though the former are more prominent.

The concurrent families are more of a reflection of harmonized relationships, where both the spouses have their own space to express their viewpoints, along with their likes and reservations about several matters, more freely. Husbands, especially no more don the roles of bread earners, while the wives are not confined to their homes as mere home makers. This shift has made it possible for both to appreciate each other, together with aspirations, more conspicouly: consequently, mutual respect has incremented manifolds, making it possible to mitigate differences more constructively.

Additionally, an equal contribution is made when it comes to handling certain essential functions: earning for the family; negotiating daily chores, like cooking, shopping for groceries and other items;  and managing the rearing of the little ones. This has surprisingly mitigated instances of shifting of blames, and unpleasant clash of egos.

Having said that, these relatively modern settings have had also certain unreasonable influences despite being sporadic; the biggest casualty of such changes has been the the juveniles, who more or less, have become uncontrollable, as they take advantage of constant switchovers of roles between their mothers and fathers. There have been reports of young members misusing this arrangement to escape their studies and going astray.

To sum up, this transformation in the family roles carries more merits, while the detriments can be surmounted if both spouses monitor and control their wards judiciously. Thus, it is a favorable evolution benefiting families and society.

Ielts Essay - Government Assistance and Unemployment

With the global economy reeling under public debts, and private sector passing through a lean phase, retrenchment has become a common practice. This has led to a spurt in unemployment across the world. To overcome this desperate situation, governments should intervene and help the jobless people.

Employment is not only the basic criteria of personal and social life but also a way to earn money to ensure a comfortable living. If the governments intervene and start extending assistance to the jobless individuals, by way of rendering financial grants, and providing subsidized services, it would come in handy for many, since it would help ensure minimum subsistence for those undergoing a crisis of sorts, as well as ensuring sustenance of quality of life. For instance, many affluent countries follow a similar practice of helping their jobless citizens by extending all kinds of financial and non-financial assistance. This has helped the people of those countries to weather all kinds of crisis.

Apart from that, with the governments coming out to assist the jobless people, it would be easier to prevent a rise in crime – that may result due to jobless people resorting to crime to make some money. Besides this, it is worth making a note here that going without a job does not only create financial crisis but it can also have an adverse impact on the mental wellbeing of individuals – due to loss of self esteem.

However, there could be some unwarranted outcomes, as the unemployed people might become completely dependent on the government help, and shun the idea of getting another job altogether, this would adversely affect their productivity. Such propensity has been observed in various countries where the state offers such grants, that jobless people abandon efforts to seek employment altogether.

To sum up, I feel that unemployment can tax people mentally and physically, and government assistance can help mitigate some of the misery and pain.
