The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. Agree or Disagree?

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. Agree or Disagree?

Yes?

  • They will remain a burden on society due to not being able to generate any productivity.

  • Such people will be unable to negotiate even personal chores.

NO?

These assumptions hold little water

  • Those unfamiliar with new techniques will be able to carry on with fundamental knowhow as these skills are foundations of advancements

The breakneck speed at which the technology is evolving has prompted many to firmly believe that everyone will need to embrace the change and those unable to relinquish their past knowhow and absorb new will be considered as lacking literacy. I will analyze this notion in the following paragraphs.

To start with, this belief is founded on the assumption that those unprepared to integrate with the transforming paradigm that would require individuals to gain knowledge of modern methods and procedures, would find it hard to match the pace with the world, especially in the professional realms. This would deprive them of the opportunities to gain appropriately compensated employment, exposing them to a life of poverty. This section compares the plight of such people to their counterparts who were forced to survive on meager earnings, due to being uneducated, in the past centuries. Such people would become consumers of government grants rather than being contributors to the economy.

On top of that, this school of thought also claims that the portion of the populace resisting revamping their skills and knowledge will face humongous challenges in their personal lives too; they will be overwhelmingly dependent on others such as their family members and friends to negotiate even their everyday chores like paying bills, banking, purchasing goods and communicating with their distant contacts. To  exemplify, even today, the elderly who are unfamiliar with modern devices and concepts cannot lead an independent life as they must rely on their children for everything, turning their life miserable.

Overall, thus, it can be safely asserted that those who lose the urge to abandon their inhibitions and get to terms with the contemporary skills and expertise will be the real illiterates and not those who cannot comprehend or create a written word.

Some people believe that anybody can be a teacher, if he is trained properly. Others think that there are some personal qualities a good teacher should have. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement?

Teaching is a type of profession, if done properly, it can help many to turn into the best leaders in the world. But what makes a good teacher is sometimes profoundly debated as some appropriate training can turn anyone into a perfect teaching professional, while some are convinced that one must possess some essential personality traits  to earn success in this realm.

To start with, nowadays any career can be achieved under adequate training and on considering teaching there are several courses and certifications which can help one to qualify as a tutor. There are several scientifically designed programs that help aspiring faculty to grasp the strategies of preparing lessons, delivering content, assessing response, and even suggesting solutions to learners to help them overcome their weaknesses. Besides this, one can also get acclimatized with the use of technology for imparting curriculum, a critical aspect of the modern education system. Therefore, many suggest that those having even a slight inclination towards this occupation can attain pinnacle.

On the other hand,  many vehemently rally behind the notion of innate qualities being paramount in turning one into an efficient professional in this profession. One needs a keen understanding of issues faced by students and also ability to connect with them, something that  can hardly be acquired by attending a course of any multitude: it is the intuitive trait that influences how well one can communicate with the pupils and help them comprehend the content effectively. The ones blessed with a pragmatic vision can make learners comfortable and the subject learning an enriching experience.

In  hindsight, I surely believe that, even though  training can help a person to get better at teaching, having good certain inbred characteristics remain the fundamental requirements for being triumphant in the realm of teaching.

It is better to teach sports to young people at school as an alternative to playing computer games at home. Why is it important? Give your opinion and examples from your own experience.

It is better to teach sports to young people at school as an alternative to playing computer games at home. Why is it important? Give your opinion and examples from your own experience.

It is common belief today that youngsters should be trained in sports  in formal tuition, instead of letting them play computer games at home. This opinion holds a lot of value in current times when young ones are addicted to virtual games.

There is overwhelming support for this view since engaging children in sports can help fetch numerous benefits. They can learn to stay physically and mentally fit, by exerting instead of sitting in the front of their virtual devices, and  abandoning their sedentary lifestyles. This can help them stay away from various diseases and ailments, like  diabetes and high blood pressure, and so on, that are nowadays affecting youngsters very frequently.  For example, a study was carried out by the University of Toronto to assess the impact of playing sports in school going children; it was found that those who took part in some kind of sporting discipline not only enjoyed good health but also were quite active.

Moreover, sports as an activity also teaches juveniles about essential social skills that they cannot otherwise learn easily. When they indulge in individual or team disciplines, they tend to learn  to coordinate with their trainers and coaches in both the types and also with their team members in the latter kind. This imparts an extremely crucial lesson about social behavior to them, and aids them in growing up as rational adults. Apart from that, they also get exposed to conditions that tutor them about maintaining their temperament and facing adverse conditions, as well as overcoming challenges.

Overall, it can thus be said that coaching young ones in formal tuition to indulge in sports  can help reap rich benefits, in terms of ensuring their mental and physical wellbeing, and fostering essential personality traits in them. .

Some countries are considering imposing curfews in which teenagers will not be allowed outdoors at night unless they are accompanied by an adult.

Why Curfew

  •  - Teen-aged juveniles are the most vulnerable group and an easy target
  •      for anti-social elements
  • - Teenagers tend to be on the wrong side of the law due to peer                pressure and overzealousness.
Why not

- Encroachment of the rights of people

- Punishment for all due to a few

The recent spurt in the criminal activities involving, or targeting adolescents during late evenings has forced governments across many countries to come up with plans to restrict unaccompanied by adults, outdoor movements of these youngsters after sunset. This proposal has fetched both accolades and brickbats.

To start with, the proposed scheme seems to be quite practical, as per certain social theorists. It is professed that the teen-aged juveniles are the most vulnerable group and an easy target for anti-social elements like robbers and muggers who can harm these youngsters. And, since most of such incidents usually take place after darkness sets in, it is extremely viable to not let young ones go out without an adult guardian.

Moreover, it is undeniable that today teenagers often, due to their overzealousness and peer pressure, tend to be on the wrong side of the law such as indulging in over-speeding, dangerous driving, drug and alcohol abuse, and frightening people, to name a few, and all such activities are undertaken during the darker hours when police patrol is minimal. Thus, to curb such unlawful instances, imposition of restrictions on outdoor endeavors of those in their adolescence, alone is quite justified.

However, the other school of thought vehemently resists such a move. As per them, this would be an encroachment of the rights of people and in fact, such a law is bound to punish the majority of lawful teenagers for the fault of a minority of unruly children. Additionally, impeding the movement of teenagers to prevent criminals from assaulting the former will only encourage the latter more.

Overall, I partially subscribe to this notion and feel that the night curfew on teenagers should only be imposed in the areas that are facing a hike in unlawful acts involving teenagers in some way.
