Subjects at schools are selected by authorities such as the central government (not by the teachers). Some say that these subjects should be chosen by teachers. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Give reasons and examples.- Ielts Essay
IELTS ESSAY WHO SHOULD CHOOSE SUBJECTS |
Over several years of last century as the education system has developed in many countries, a new trend of establishing central authorities to look after establishment of curriculum academic pursuals has also emerged. This system has many advantages but there are some who criticize this procedure and feel that teachers must be given authority to plan curriculum and syllabus for individual schools.
People who vouch for the central
authority deciding the curriculum quote that a country faces greatest challenge
harmonizing academic disciplines and syllabus across the country within single
grid which would help assess and evaluate the intelligence of students on basis
of single criteria list. This would help create a strategy to develop a
comprehensive education system that is offers equal opportunities to all
pupils.
Besides the harmonization of
standards, a central authority always has access to broader perspectives and abundance
of resources that can help devise and develop such study material that can assist
greatly in enhancing the student’s knowledge at par with updated trends and
developments.
On the contrary there is a lobby
that strongly feels that it is the teachers who should be given responsibility
of choosing the disciplines to be imparted to different pupils. As per them,
teachers are closer to the students and have a better access to their
intelligence levels. This first hand information on level of understanding
helps teachers in deciding the subjects that can be easily grabbed by the
pupils as per their aspirations and also help in developing their skills.
In overall analysis, I feel that
it is better for a central agency to take care of establishment of curriculum
as it helps in ensuring a reliable and comprehensive system that not guarantees
delivery of standardized education but also ensures a better evaluation system.Ielts Essay
